Two Found Dead Westerly, R.I., Paganism Brought Into The Case.

Oct. 17, 2001
Westerly, RI - A man and his long time female companion have been found dead in their Westerly, Rhode Island home. The man identified as Arthur "Skip" Larkin and his as yet unidentified companion were found by police after receiving a call from a Californian friend of theirs who had been concerned about their well being after an unusual lack of contact. The Westerly police are currently trying to determine whether it was a murder-suicide or possibly a suicide pact. The couple's spirituality was brought into the case by the prescence of "medieval weaponry, ritual paraphenalia, occult books, hollowed out horns, and possibly burnt animal bones." Initially, the couple's spiritual practices were unknown, but they have been tentatively identified as Pagans.

What has been disturbingly downplayed in the media are the other facts of the case. The fact that the man had been unemployed since being laid off in April. The fact that an email has surfaced indicating that an ongoing custody dispute had driven the couple to the brink. The mechanism of their death has yet to be released, yet the media has placed their focus on the "medieval weaponry" in the house. It seems that the October Witch/Pagan sweeps month has overshadowed journalistic integrity.

To his credit, the Westerly Police Chief has publicly stated that he has not yet found any reason to link their deaths with their spiritual path. The WLPA has initiated contact with the Police Chief via a letter and information pack sent out on the 19th (the day that their religion wassupposedly confirmed by aquaintances of the couple). A copy of the letter can be found here. We will attempt further contact should we fail to receive a response. We will post updates as they happen.
