Book Review: Witch- A Magickal Year, By Fiona Horne

By Dylan Masson

Fiona's done it again! For those of you who haven't read the review of her first book,
click here to read it. For those of you who have, this book makes the perfect companion to it. With the success of her first book, Fiona found her readers commenting "This is fantastic, but tell us more!", and Witch- A Magickal Year was born. Where her first book focused on her life as a Witch with a few spells and meditations mixed in, Witch- A Magickal Year gets into the "nuts and bolts" of Witchcraft.

Witch- A Magickal Year offers insights, spells, a Witch's calendar of important dates, and recipes (including a great chapter full of herbal/magickal cosmetics). More than that, it offers new Witches advice on tools (with descriptions of the Witch's tools, what they represent, and how hey are used in circle), holidays (with dates for both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres), and valuable insights on why Witches do (or don't do) the things we do. In her chapter "How Low Can You Go", Fiona also offers advice to help Witches (both newbies and those of us who've been around a while) keep a proper perspective on life when things aren't going as well as we had hoped.

Witch- A Magickal Year isn't just for new Witches. Both new and experienced Witches will benefit from such chapters as "7 Days To A Magickal New You!". In it, she outline a seven day retreat/recharge plan (ideal for recovering from the burnout that we all hit sometimes). The interviews that brought different perspectives into her first book are back. Included are interviews with Liam Cyfrin (when is he going to write a book?), Wendy Rule, Carmela Leone (who some might remember from the first book), Kerri Simpson, and Samantha Taylor and Paul Welsh (about their handfasting). All in all, Witch- A Magickal Year makes a great companion to her first book.

Important Announcement!

To all of you who emailed asking when her first book was going to be published in the U.S., your words did not go unheeded. Her first and second books have been edited and compiled into a single volume entitled Witch- A Magickal Journey. If everything goes as planned, we in the U.S. should see in release for January of 2001. Fiona is currently working on her third book. For more details you can visit her site at www.fionahorne.com.

FIONA WILL BE IN AMERICA IN JANUARY - COME ALONG AND MEET HER! She will be talking about Witchcraft, answering your questions, demonstrating Witchcraft rituals and spellcasting and signing copies of WITCH A MAGICKAL JOURNEY.

Since posting the reviews of Fiona's books, I have received scores of emails asking where they could get copies. Well, Fiona is finally being published in the U.S. and U.K.. Witch- A Magickal Journey (review coming in the next week or two) is a compilation of her first two Australian releases with additional material added for good measure. She'll be touring in support of Witch- A Magickal Journey, and can't wait to meet everyone who supported her in getting published in the northern hemisphere. More dates are being added every day- check out her website for updates!
